A Kansas City, Kan., teacher inadvertently showed his classroom a pornographic picture, and the school ended up suspending two students over the incident.
KCTV5 News reports during a first hour biology class, a teacher turned on his projector and students clearly saw an inappropriate photo.
Karen Winkel claimed her son got in trouble because “the school was trying to hide something.”
Laura Lester said her freshman daughter took a snapshot that showed the laptop, the projector and an image of a naked woman.
Lester said her daughter sent the picture to her boyfriend and asked what to do. Winkel’s son then sent the picture to a friend.
It’s believed the friend posted the picture to his private Facebook page. After being pulled out of class twice that day, both Winkel and Lester’s children were suspended for two days.
Both students were said to be in violation of the school’s electronics policy. The students are both on the honor roll and reportedly don’t want the suspension on their permanent records, and their parents are trying to appeal the decision.
When the parents couldn’t get answers at school they consulted an attorney, but under Kansas law they have no real recourse on reversing the suspension. They agreed to waive their children’s privacy rights with the school, but still officials say they can’t talk to KCTV5. School officials did say they would be willing to sit down with the parents again.
The teacher who had the porn on his computer has been an employee of the district since 2002, KCTV5 said. The district’s policy is to place the accused employee on paid leave while officials conduct an investigation into the allegations.
