Here’s a reminder to all the parents and grandparents putting money aside to go toward college costs.
Naturally, there’s tuition, books, a dorm room and don’t forget their burial expenses. Funerals can be very costly if you don’t plan ahead.
Are you wondering why I’m talking about death when it comes to an 18 or 19-year-old student? Well, I’m talking about Arizona State University freshman Naomi McClendon, who fatally fell 10 stories after attending an all-you-can-drink party put on by a banned fraternity.
That’s too bad, but it’s an isolated incident and you did a little under-age drinking when you were in college and it didn’t hurt you, you say.
Well, it may have hurt University of Arizona freshman Michael Anderson who, last Friday, was attempting to climb a tower on top of a three-story residence hall.
He fell and was declared dead at the scene. The cause is being investigated.
Did I mention the fraternity pledge, Jack Culiolias, illegally served at a Tempe bar last year and whose body was found in the Salt River? Please, mom and dad: Talk to your kids about that other dangerous drug — alcohol.
Don’t shrug and say, “Kids will be kids.” If that’s your attitude, “Kids will be dead kids!”
