Jodi Arias’ parents break silence with online video, ask for donations

Nov 10, 2014, 7:00 PM | Updated: 10:23 pm

Jodi Arias’ parents have recorded a video that clarifies where supporters can send money to “help her obtain the best legal representation possible” in her sentencing retrial.

The video was uploaded Saturday under the YouTube account “Jodi Justice,” but a graphic early in the clip says it was recorded in September from the parents’ home in Yreka, California.

HLN says it’s the first time Bill and Sandy Arias have spoken out since their daughter was convicted in the murder of Travis Alexander. The national news network also says they originally published the video last Monday, but it was taken offline two days, for reasons unknown.

The couple spends a majority of the video promoting the site set up for Arias’ defense, Justice4Jodi.com, while dismissing similar websites that are asking for money on the convicted killer’s behalf.

Sandy Arias concludes:

“We thank you for your continued efforts to help us obtain a(n) overturned conviction on her appeal for her wrongful conviction. We love our daughter, we support her and we stand behind her. And we’d also like to thank everybody for their continued love and support that they have shown to our family.”

According to the site the family established, donations are non-refundable and not tax-deductible.

The website doesn’t mention how much money has been raised so far, but says most attorneys’ retainers for a case similar to Arias’ are $250,000.

KTAR News legal expert Monica Lindstrom said Monday on the Mac & Gaydos show that Arias’ parents are perhaps fighting on her behalf because they might think she shouldn’t be convicted of first-degree murder because she had no criminal record prior to slaying Alexander in June 2008.

We want to hear from you.
