Mexican amusement park offers fake border crossing

Jun 25, 2013, 1:46 PM | Updated: 2:30 pm

In El Alberto, Mexico an amusement park is not offering an attraction that gives park-goers an idea of what it would be like to illegally cross the border.

According to PBS, this border-crossing adventure is simulated in a three to four hour hike, complete with Border Patrol agents, arrests, smugglers and many of the other dangers faced by those who have illegally immigrated to the U.S.

Titi, a man who works in the park as a coyote on the Night Walk, was excited about the effects the attraction could do for his village and country. He said:

“It’s time to create some employment, to work with our own and regenerate everything, or at least what we can, even though it might be slow going.”

This amusement park, specifically this attraction, is most visited by middle-class Mexicans, tourists and private school students which would not be considered prime suspects for illegal border crossing activity.

The hope is that this attraction will convince others not to cross the border illegally but also to recognize those who have endured, and those who have died, during such a journey.

We want to hear from you.
