‘Sports Illustrated’ to feature gay kiss in Super Bowl issue

Jan 29, 2013, 3:45 PM | Updated: 5:31 pm

“Sports Illustrated” will include a photo of a gay kiss between two San Francisco 49ers’ fans in their Super Bowl Preview issue.

According to gay.net, the image was taken at Hi Tops, a gay sports bar in San Francisco’s Castro District, immediately following the 49ers clinching their spot in the Super Bowl.

Owner Jesse Woodward said the photo sends a worldwide message that sports fans come “from all walks of life and we’re all a big melting pot.” Logan Chavarria, a Hi Tops bartender, added that this photo being embraced by Sports Illustrated is a victory for the LGBT community.

“A lot of people come in and don’t even know it’s a gay bar and then we find out we have a common bond,” Chavarria said.
