LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fearsome sharks rained down once more in the latest “Sharknado” TV movie, but they didn’t create the ratings deluge of last year’s installment.

An estimated 2.8 million viewers tuned in for Syfy’s campy “Sharknado 3: Oh Hell No!” starring Ian Ziering and Tara Reid. In comparison, 3.9 million viewers watched 2014’s “Sharknado 2.”

“Sharknado 3” was Wednesday’s No. 1 cable program and had double the audience of the original 2013 movie’s 1.4 million viewers.

The third movie topped Nielsen’s Twitter TV ratings with 360,000 event-related tweets.

The original “Sharknado,” also featuring Ziering and Reid, was a surprise hit with its blend of offbeat casting and over-the-top storytelling and special effects.

And cue the sharks again: Syfy said a fourth movie is planned.
