SCF Arizona, the state’s largest provider of workers compensation insurance, has changed its name to CopperPoint Mutual Insurance Company.
While the new name and privatization will allow the company to expand, Phyllis Senseman, Vice President of Marketing and Communications, reassured clients that the company’s ultimate mission has not changed.
“Our mission is to provide peace of mind to business owners who need workers compensation insurance,” Senseman said. “We want to make it easy for them to do business and be confident that if they ever have a need to file a claim that they’re going to be handled in a swift and efficient and friendly manner.”
The statute to privatize SCF Arizona actually happened back in 2010. On Jan. 1, 2013, SCF Arizona officially became a mutual insurance company.
“That statute gave us the freedom and now we can start to expand our products and services outside of Arizona and also to our customer base right here in Arizona,” Senseman explained.
Because it is now a private mutual insurance company, CopperPoint Mutual is governed by a board of directors and is funded entirely by employer premiums and investment returns, rather than tax dollars.
CopperPoint Mutual continues to serve over 20,000 business customers in Arizona, which equates to covering about 500,000 workers. The name change and expansion means the company can now offer other insurance products that they were previously unable to provide.
“Many times, they’ve (businesses) asked us to do other insurance products for them, but we were limited by that statute not to, so our future world will be providing new services,” said Senseman.
