Valley veterans treated to snow, hot chocolate

Dec 19, 2013, 6:59 PM | Updated: 6:59 pm

PHOENIX — Dozens of veterans soaked up a little sun, drank hot chocolate and played in the snow in central Phoenix on Thursday.

The idea to bring in a snowmaking machine to the Arizona State Veteran Home came after a Vietnam veteran and a disabled peacetime veteran asked to see snow for the holiday.

“It’s great, the people doing such a nice thing,” said veteran Tim Bottorf. “I’ve only seen snow falling from the sky three times in my life and I’ll probably never get to see it again.”

Organizers had three tons of snow pumped onto the front patio.
