FARMINGTON, N.M. — A Farmington School District bus carrying elementary school students overturned and landed on its side while returning from a field trip on the Navajo Nation in northeastern Arizona.
The accident occurred late Monday near Red Valley as two district buses returned from a field trip to Canyon de Chelly.
School District Superintendent Eugene Schmidt says some of the 44 students from Bluffview Elementary School had scrapes, bumps and bruises but that all were released to their parents after being examined at hospitals in Shiprock and Farmington.
According to Schmidt, one of two adult chaperones on the bus that overturned underwent surgery for injuries that he said were described as not life threatening.
Schmidt said no information was immediately available on what caused the accident.
