Wright brothers’ name to be licensed for goods

Jan 15, 2013, 3:59 PM

OAKWOOD, Ohio (AP) – Want a Wright Brothers-brand bomber jacket or aviator sunglasses? They might soon be available to buy, as the aviation pioneers’ descendants try to generate revenue to support the southwest Ohio mansion where Orville Wright lived for decades.

The Dayton Daily News reports (

A great grandniece of Orville and Wilbur Wright says licensing the name for consumer goods will help maintain the 6,000-square-foot home and 3.4 acres. Amanda Wright Lane says the family had earlier deals with media companies to support aviation heritage projects in the region. The mansion is part of the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park.

The Hawthorn Hill mansion is located in the Dayton suburb of Oakwood.
