PHOENIX — The speech was 70 minutes.

It covered ground as close as downtown Phoenix and as far away as China — multiple times.

Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump spent his afternoon in Phoenix telling people why he should be the next president of the United States. And he took a few shots at others — or a lot, and he wasn’t afraid to name names.

Here are the major headlines and things that happened from Trump’s speech at the Phoenix Convention Center:

Mexico

“Mexico, and by the way, officially and I’ve only said this about 200 times but it never gets reported, I love the Mexican people. I love the spirit of the Mexican people. I love them. Many, many people from Mexico — legal. They went in the old fashion way. Many, many people from Mexico work for me. … I respect Mexico greatly as a country. But the problem we have, is their leaders are much smarter, sharper and more cunning than our leaders. And they’re killing us at the border and they’re killing us in trade.”

Charging Mexico for immigrants

“Here’s an idea, every time Mexico sends someone over (the border) we charge Mexico $100,000 for every person they send over. They make so much money, that’s peanuts. … You’ll see that it will stop because that starts to add up.”

Immigration

“I love legal immigration. I love it. I think it’s great. I think we should make it easier and faster, which is fine. … And we’ll have great people in from all countries.”

Protesters

About 20 minutes into his speech a group of protesters raised a banner that disrupted the speech. Trump started to slowly chant “USA, USA, USA” into the mic as a mix of boos rang through the crowd. There was yelling, chanting and a little bit of shoving. Ultimately, the group was escorted out without much of an incident, although, Trump did recognize them and get his say in.

“I wonder if the Mexican government sent them over here.”

Latest polls

“The poll just came out, I’m tied with Jeb Bush. And I said, ‘that’s too bad, how can I be tied with this guy. He’s terrible.’ He’s weak on immigration.”

‘People don’t like me’

“CNN did a poll the other day. I’m killing everyone on jobs. I’m killing everyone on leadership. The only thing I’m not winning is people don’t like me. I said, ‘What difference does it make? This is on competence.'”

Hillary Clinton

“Hillary Clinton is going to be a horrible president. If she even wins her own primary, which I don’t know.

Hillary Clinton was the worst secretary of state in the history of our country. The world blew up around her. Our enemies are a disaster. Our friends, hate us more, they’re all gone. We don’t get along with anybody. Everyone is ripping us off.”

Negotiators

“I know the greatest negotiators in the world. Some of them are horrible people, horrible human beings. But who cares?”

Military

“We have to build up our military. … In bringing back our military, we have to do something else. We have to take care of our veterans. Our veterans are treated like third-class citizens and they are the greatest.”

ISIS

“ISIS will be in such trouble,” Trump said with a smirk.

“ISIS is building a hotel in Iraq. They are competing with me. They are wealthy, they have the oil.

ISIS, believe me, I would take them out so fast. You have to do it.”

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl

We negotiate for Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl — a no good traitor. Six people were killed trying to find him.

“I would send him back, and if they don’t want him, I’d send him back anyway,” Trump said on renegotiating and how bad he believes Obama did on the negotiation for Bergdahl

China

“China laughs at us. They laugh at our stupidity. They laugh at our incompetent politicians. They have geniuses that negotiate for them, we have people that don’t have a clue. They don’t have a clue.”

NBC

While discussing and telling people about his split from NBC last month he made sure to not forget Brian Williams.

“They got lyin’ Brian Williams.”

Mexico and Univision

“The Mexican government totally tells Univision what to do.”

Trump would also remind people — more than once — that he recently sued Univision for $500 million.

Guest speaker, Jamiel Shaw

Trump brought out a guest speaker in the middle of his speech, Jamiel Shaw.

Shaw’s son was killed by an undocumented immigrant in 2008. He was 17, a high school football player and happened to be mistaken for a rival gang member because of something he was wearing.

The American Dream

“The American Dream is dead. But I’m going to make it bigger, strong and better than ever before.”

Trump speeches

“I don’t use teleprompters like the president, I speak from the heart.”

We want to hear from you.
