SURPRISE, Ariz. — Police say a Surprise mother has been arrested after allegedly leaving her 2-year-old child in a hot car while she went shopping.

Authorities say 20-year-old Mikayla Lynn Peer was arrested Saturday and booked on charges of child neglect and endangerment.

According to police, a passer-by spotted the child inside the locked vehicle around 4 p.m. and called authorities.

Police had to break a window to remove the child, who was transported to a hospital but appeared to be uninjured.

Police located Peer inside a store and determined the child was inside the car for at least 20 minutes.

They say the temperature inside the vehicle was 108 degrees.

It was not immediately known if Peer had an attorney.
