A poll by CNBC says Arizona has dropped 21 spots and now ranks 34th nationally in terms of business.
The poll says that economic growth slowed last year to 1.4 percent in Arizona. Chris Camacho, the President of the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, admits that’s true.
“The overall economy continues to float along as we have been reliant on consumption-based industries, which is the term for growth, to drive the economy,” Camacho said.
But Camacho insists that things are looking up in Arizona.
“Just today, we hosted a number of leading job growth providers, including Banner Health, American Express, Cox Communications and Wells Fargo,” said Camacho. “The response from their end is that Arizona is a great place to do business.”
Camacho said that with expected job growth in health care and technology, the future looks good in Arizona.
“What’s in our pipeline at GPEC, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council, is generally indicative of the six to nine month activity that’s ahead, and this is the most robust activity that I’ve seen in my seven years here,” Camacho said.
The poll ranked Minnesota as the best state in the country for business.
