Prescott group hopes to rebuild park honoring woman killed by ISIS

PHOENIX — A group in Prescott is trying to win $25,000 to revamp a local park to honor the memory of an Arizona woman killed while being held hostage by the Islamic State.
The Kiwanis Club of Prescott wants to rebuild the Pioneer Park playground and rename it in Kayla Mueller’s honor, according to The Daily Courier.
If the club wins, Kiwanians said they will rename the playground “Kayla’s Hands Playground,” purchase new equipment and move the area so it can be made accessible for people with disabilities.
Mueller was captured by ISIS in 2013 and died earlier this year while in captivity. Her father, Carl Mueller, was a member and former president of the Prescott club.
Kelly Tobert, recreation coordinator for the city, said they want to work with the Mueller family to create a fitting tribute.
Voting is available through the Kiwanis Club of Prescott Facebook page until June 1. If the club is to win, the playground will be installed by June 1, 2016.
