PHOENIX — The Phoenix Zoo has a new, striped resident.

Suriya, a 12-year-old Sumatran tiger, moved into her new habitat on Wednesday morning. Though she was given free range of the exhibit, she opted to hang out in the den area. Keepers will attempt to get her in the open on Friday and Monday, but there is no guarantee.

The tiger came to the desert from the Oklahoma City Zoo.

Suriya joins Jai, an 11-year-old Sumatran tiger in the exhibit. The pair will not be on display together, as the tigers are only allowed to meet for breeding purposes.

We want to hear from you.
