Sweet goodbye: Arizona newsroom worker ‘resigns via cake’

May 5, 2015, 12:39 PM | Updated: 12:39 pm

It’s always tough to tell coworkers you plan to leave the company, but one Arizona newsroom worker put a sweet twist on his bad news.

The Huffington Post reported Mark Herman, the soon-to-be-former newscast director at KOLD-TV in Tucson, gave his boss a cake with his resignation letter printed on it. He posted a photo of the cake on Reddit, where it quickly went viral.

Herman told Jim Romenesko his boss thought the cake was a hilarious idea.

“I knew they’d be disappointed in my departure,” he said. “So I decided that I should resign via cake — not only because nobody can be mad or sad at a cake, but also because I’m a bit of a joker and a cake of resignation is pretty damn hilarious.”

After wrapping up his time in Tucson (and finishing his cake), Herman will head to Nashville for a new position.

We want to hear from you.
