Food prices in supermarkets have dropped in Arizona

LISTEN: Arizona supermarkets meat prices have decreased

Grocery shopping is a little cheaper in Arizona at the supermarket according to an informal survey by the Arizona Farm Bureau.

“We have good news, we’re down 5 percent in the first quarter of this year,” said Julie Murphree, spokesperson for the Arizona Farm Bureau. “And we’re surprised by that because we anticipated that meat process would be higher, so for you and I as consumers that like our good Arizona beef this going to be a good thing to know.”

The informal survey uses the same 16 items to try to predict supermarket trends.

Sliced deli ham, for example, has dropped from $5.92 in the fourth quarter of last year to $3.46 in the first quarter of this year.

And bacon has dropped from $5.07 to $4.46.

“And we’re always going to the same stores so we can compare apples to apples,” she said. “But the idea is to see if we’re trending up in price, or we’re trending down in price.”

To save money even further, Arizona Farm Bureau has 18 tips, as published in their recent list.

Among these are sticking to a grocery list and creating a week-long menu based on grocery store deals.
