Milwaukee Brewers to stay at Maryvale Baseball Park

PHOENIX — A spokesman for the Milwaukee Brewers confirmed the team will be staying at Maryvale Baseball Park through the next year, the Phoenix Business Journal reported.

After many issues arose with outdated design and lack of space in the ballpark, Brewers spokesman Tyler Barnes confirmed the team will continue to stay in the west Phoenix neighborhood.

“We will be in Maryvale at least through next year and after that, all options are still being considered,” Barnes said.

The 7,000-seat stadium, which has housed the team since 1998, has drawn some complaints from players over outdated design and cramped locker rooms. A spokesman for the Phoenix Parks Department said the city has replaced ballpark seats and upgraded other aspects at the Brewers’ stadium.

Although the team signed a lease extension with the city of Phoenix in 2012, the lease does grant them some out clauses.

If the Brewers decide to move, they could relocate to another Phoenix suburb, such as the Vistancia development in Peoria, or relocate to Florida’s Grapefruit League.

However, Phoenix city officials would like to see them stay put.

“We want to keep the Brewers here,” Cactus League Vice President Jeff Meyer said. “It’s important to keep them here in Arizona. They’ve been so instrumental in what they’ve done over the years. We’ll do everything we can to keep them here.”

We want to hear from you.
