Phoenix police officer arrested after traffic argument

Oct 29, 2014, 8:12 AM | Updated: 8:22 am

PHOENIX — An on-duty Phoenix policeman was arrested and charged with assault after pointing a weapon at people in a car.

A police department spokesman said Officer Jeremy Sweet was in an unmarked car during a traffic argument near Central Avenue and Lincoln Street early this week.

Police said he was transporting prisoners Monday and thought another driver had tried to cut him off, possibly in an escape attempt.

Someone called 911 to report the altercation the next day, and an investigation was opened.

“Part of the problem … he did not ask for assistance, he did not document it in any way,” Sgt. Trent Crump said of Sweet.

Sweet, 51, is a seven-year veteran of the force.

We want to hear from you.
