Phoenix Youth Symphony, Boys Choir to open year in Chandler

PHOENIX — More than 100 Valley students are getting ready to open the season for the Phoenix Youth Symphony and Phoenix Boys Choir.

Sunday afternoon in Chandler, the two groups will be performing Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5 and Samuel Barber’s overture to The School for Scandal.

Conductor Thomas Cockrell told KTAR News 92.3 FM’s Arizona’s Morning News Weekend that the opening program of the season will also be his first time leading the Phoenix Youth Symphony.

The concert begins at 3 p.m. at the Chandler Center for the Arts at 250 N. Arizona Ave. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students.
