PHOENIX — Here’s an auction with a twist.

A pair of braids snipped from the head of country music legend Willie Nelson sold for $37,000 at a weekend auction held at Phoenix’s Museum of Musical Instruments.

Auction house Guernsey’s Remembering Waylon sale on Sunday featured about 2,000 items that belonged to country singer Waylon Jennings, who died in 2002, and friends.

Jennings’ widow, singer Jessi Colter, included the braids, which Nelson clipped himself in 1983 as a show of support for Jennings’ quest for sobriety.

Other items up for bid were a letter to Jennings from John Lennon, Buddy Holly’s motorcycle and notebooks with lyrics and bits and pieces of what would become other songs.

We want to hear from you.
