US Customs/Border Protection is hiring 2,000 agents

Jul 24, 2014, 5:00 AM | Updated: 8:56 am

PHOENIX — U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the agency responsible for securing U.S. borders from all threats, is hiring 2,000 agents to secure air, land and sea ports across the country.

The plan to hire the additional agents is a result of funding provided in the fiscal year 2014 budget and not as a result of the current crisis unfolding at the nation’s southwestern border.

“This was in the pipeline,” said CBP spokeswoman Theresa Small. “It has nothing to do with the influx of Central American children.”

The positions should be filled by the end of fiscal year 2015 to “enhance security, help reduce wait times and facilitate growing volumes of legitimate goods and travelers that are critical to the health of our nation’s economy,” according to a press release.

For more information on the CBP officer positions, visit www.cbp.gov/careers. The site also has a video on how CBP officers protect America 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To apply for the CBP officer position, applicants must have an active USA Jobs account and complete an online application here.
