Working up sweat remembering hottest day in Phoenix history

PHOENIX — As much complaining that goes on about how hot it’s gotten inn the Valley of late, it pales next to June 26, 1990.
The temperature that day set the mark for Valley heat — 122 degrees. It was so hot that airplanes were figuratively stuck on the Sky Harbor tarmac because the airlines weren’t sure what would happen to their planes in that kind of heat. Guidelines that pilots use only went up to 120 degrees at the time.
There were T-shirts printed to commemorate the event, there’s a Facebook page and most anyone who was older than a toddler back then won’t forget that day.
There have been a couple runs made at the record. Phoenix reached 121 degrees on July 28, 1995 and last year at 119 on June 29.
Thursday’s high was expected to be 108, according to the Weather Channel.
