Arizona college students ‘shoot’ for world record to win free rent

May 9, 2014, 5:00 AM | Updated: 11:03 am

Rock-paper-scissors — that’s the name of the game.

More than 3,000 local college students are expected to gather at the Mark Apartment Complex in Tempe on Saturday in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest rock-paper-scissors competition.

Though breaking the world record would be a great achievement, Ryan Baughman, the director of operations and acquisitions for Sundance Property Management said that’s not all that’s up for grabs.

“Most students are cost-sensitive when it comes to living arrangements and we decided that we’d make the grand prize free rent for one year,” Baughman said.

Baughman said there will also be giveaways for concert tickets and gift cards. Students can sign up for the event on Facebook. They need to have a student ID upon arrival.

The event takes place 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at 1115 E. Lemon Street.
