FAA ground stop halts flights in Phoenix

Apr 30, 2014, 2:48 PM | Updated: 3:59 pm

PHOENIX — A ground stop initiated by the Federal Aviation Administration halted at least four flights in Phoenix on Wednesday after a computer glitch.

The ground stop affected Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (including Bob Hope and John Wayne airports), Phoenix, Salt Lake City and San Diego. It was lifted about 3:30 p.m. when the FAA fixed the glitch.

Delays at Phoenix Sky Harbor exceeded 45 minutes. Delays hit nearly two hours at other airports.

“We have [15] flights that were due to land in Los Angeles diverted to Phoenix,” said Julie Rodriguez with Phoenix Sky Harbor, adding that one flight was international.

Rodriguez said those flights began heading for Los Angeles slightly before 4 p.m.

Flights were able to land at affected airports.
