Small meteor reportedly seen in Arizona sky

PHOENIX — Valley residents reported seeing a meteor in the sky east of Phoenix on Saturday evening, and the National Weather Service later affirmed what they saw.

The National Weather Service Phoenix said on Twitter late in the evening that people also spotted the same meteor in the sky north of El Paso, Texas.

KSAZ Fox 10 says NASA’s Meteoroid Envrironment’s Office also confirmed the sighting.

The meteor was caught on camera by NASA’s meteor camera located at New Mexico State University.

Cooke estimates the magnitude of the meteor as a –9, and the size of the rock about one foot in diameter.
