If you’re stuck in traffic along Cooper Road north of Ray Road in Chandler, soon you’ll be able to gaze upon some artificial cacti — 42 of them, to be exact.
“You really have to walk up to them to get an appreciation for the fact that they are not real,” said Jim Phipps with the City of Chandler.
The cacti are manufactured by a company called Desert Steel out of Newton, Kansas.
The inside lanes along Cooper Road will be closed during the installation, but most of the work is expected to be completed this week.
The $155,700 project also includes new trees and shrubs.
“We are replacing that unkempt concrete looking material with some nice new pavers,” said Phipps.
