2 killed in Scottsdale after SUV hits tree

Mar 2, 2014, 1:04 PM | Updated: 7:49 pm

PHOENIX — Police in Scottsdale say two people are dead after a vehicle lost control and hit a tree.

Officer David Pubins says a Ford SUV was heading north on Scottsdale Road, near McCormick Parkway, around noon Sunday when it struck the median and then crashed into a tree.

Pubins says the 46-year-old female driver was declared dead at the scene, and a 63-year-old male passenger died of his injuries at the hospital.

He says two other adults were taken to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn Medical Center with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Investigators had closed the northbound lanes of Scottsdale Road between McCormick and Royal Palm Road, but they reopened around 5:10 p.m.

Pubins says speed appears to have been a factor and investigators are not ruling out alcohol.
