Phoenix boy, 3, dies after drowning in backyard pool

Feb 23, 2014, 12:29 PM | Updated: 1:53 pm

PHOENIX — Phoenix firefighters say a 3-year-old boy has died after drowning in a backyard swimming pool.

Authorities said family members at a home near 63rd Street and Exeter Boulevard
discovered the child in the pool Sunday morning.

A family member performed CPR until emergency responders arrived.

Capt. Jonathan Jacobs said the child was found pulseless when the fire crew arrived and he was taken to a pediatric emergency facility.

The child later died from injuries sustained in the drowning.

Jacobs said this is the first drowning incident this year involving a child
under the age of 5. He added that there were no barriers around the pool to prevent the boy from falling in.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
