Feds want child car seats to pass crash test

PHOENIX — The National Highway Traffic Administration announced that it will require additional testing for child safety seats inside impact crashes.
The test will simulate a crash and requires the seat to restrain and safely protect the child’s head and chest. The test will also cover a child up to 40 pounds.
“It’s great news for parents,” said Stephanie Dembowski, a Triple A spokeswoman. “This will further ensure the safety of children,” she added.
According to the CDC, child safety seats reduce the risk of death in passenger cars by 71 perfect for infants, and by 54 perfect for ages 1 to 4 years.
