Intel stops construction on Chandler chip factory

Jan 15, 2014, 1:00 PM | Updated: 1:01 pm

PHOENIX — Construction on a highly-touted advanced chip plant in Chandler has been abruptly abandoned by Intel.

The chip making company has postponed plans for the site known as “Fab 42” for an unspecified amount of time, it was announced this week. The facility was supposed to open near the end of the year. President Barack Obama visited the site in early 2012.

“The new construction is going to be left vacant for now and it will be targeted at future technologies,” Mulloy told Reuters.

The other plants at the Ocotillo site on Dobson near Queen Creek roads remain in operation.
