PHOENIX — A dog named Ace may be answering to Hero now, after his barking Friday morning woke his Glendale family in time to escape their burning home.
A fire department spokesman said there were no working smoke detectors in the house at 60th Avenue near Cactus Road. The occupants told crews that Ace woke them with his frantic barking and the unidentified couple realized the house was full of smoke.
They were able to escape out the back door, along with three other pets.
Investigators are searching for a cause of the fire.
