NEW RIVER, Ariz. — Authorities said one person was seriously injured after an explosion in New River.

The victim, a former military ordinance specialist, lost most of a leg.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials said deputies responded to an injured-person
call about 6:30 p.m. Monday.

Authorities confirmed that a 49-year-old man and two men in their 20s lived in the house. The explosion occurred as the older man was helping the two younger men move out.

Aerial footage showed a man being airlifted near two buildings that appeared
to be a house and an outbuilding near Daisy Mountain.

The victims’ names and full
ages haven’t been released yet and cause of the explosion isn’t immediately available.

Sheriff’s officials said they have visited the home at least once back in 1999.
