Phoenix International Raceway planning anniversary celebration

PHOENIX — Phoenix International Raceway is planning a celebration for its 50th anniversary next year.
The very first race was run at PIR on March 22, 1964. The car that he won that race in will be on display next year in an exhibit called Memory Lane.
“We’ll have A.J. Foyt’s race-winning 1964 car, and the car in which Alan Kowicki won the very first NASCAR Race at PIR in 1988,” said PIR President Bryan R. Sperber. “We found both of those cars. They’ll be coming back to part of this exhibit. It’s the first time they’ll be at the track since they were in Victory Lane. Many other cars will also be part of this exhibit.”
The entire schedule of 50th anniversary events will be announced during the Advocare 500 race weekend at PIR Nov. 10.
