Study: Arizona ranks second in country in solar installments

Sep 15, 2013, 7:36 PM | Updated: 7:36 pm

PHOENIX — The Solar Energy Industry Association and GTM Research released its quarterly report Sunday, and according to the Phoenix Business Journal, Arizona installed 90 megawatts in the second quarter of 2013 — good for second-highest behind California (438 megawatts).

Arizona’s upward trend in solar installations over the past quarter is not surpring considering the entire industry saw a jump over the last quarter (832 megawatts compared to the 819 megawatts installed in the second quarter of 2012).

What’s surprising about the state’s high number of solar installments, is the fact that a majority of them are of the utility variety, whereas the national trend has focused more on rooftop solar for commercial and residential buildings.

As the Phoenix Business Journal noted, commercial installments are not very common in Arizona.
