Red Cross opens shelter to aid Grand Canyon evacuees

PHOENIX — The American Red Cross announced Wednesday it established a shelter to aid about 500 Supai Village residents who are being affected by flooding.

The village, located in the Grand Canyon, lost its water well pump and backup generator to flooding. A sewage pipe was also broken.

The shelter was established at the Hualapai Tribal Administration Multipurpose Building. So far, 30 evacuees have registered for shelter with tribal leaders.

The multipurpose building is located at 470 Hualapai Way in Peach Springs, Ariz.
