Ahwatukee places collection bins for monsoon debris

PHOENIX — The city of Ahwatukee has placed more than 20 large containers for residents looking to dispose of debris from a large monsoon that blew through Monday.

The bins are intended for plant waste only. The city said the bins will be picked up on Wednesday.

The wind was so severe during the storm that it knocked down the scoreboard at Desert Vista High School’s football field. The National Weather Service said that a microburst over the area brought winds as high as 90 mph.

KTAR’s Bruce St. James said a semitruck was blown over on Interstate 10 and there was nearly zero visibility on I-10 near Pecos Road and that some freeway signs were down.
