Diamondbacks Spanish announcer accused of assault

Jul 17, 2013, 4:14 PM | Updated: 4:18 pm

PHOENIX — A Spanish-language broadcaster for the Arizona Diamondbacks was accused of assaulting his wife after threatening her at knife point Wednesday, court documents said.

The victim said she found Miguel Quintana going through her cell phone because he was jealous. An argument ensued and Quintana grabbed a knife, slapped the victim and allegedly held the blade to her throat as he threatened to kill her.

Quintana’s wife yelled for help. The couple’s son found them, at which point Quintana returned the knife to a knife block. Quintana then asked his wife to go into their bedroom.

The victim sustained minor injuries during the attack.

Quintana was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, threatening and criminal damage.

The Diamondbacks released the following statement following the arrest. It has not been altered in any way.

“The Arizona Diamondbacks take this issue and these allegations very seriously and do not condone, nor will we tolerate violence of any kind. We have taken immediate action to suspend Miguel until this matter is resolved in court.”

The Diamondbacks’ website said Quintana is in the 16th year with the team.
