Police: Cracked car windows invite thieves

Jun 13, 2013, 5:00 AM | Updated: 5:00 am

PHOENIX — We’ve all done it: Left the windows of our car just slightly open to keep the car from baking on the inside or to prevent the windshield from cracking.

Police said it is definitely a risky move even with the slightest amount of space as thieves notice those cracked windows.

“They walk by a vehicle and see a vehicle with the window even down an inch, that provides them opportunity,” said Phoenix Police Sgt. Darren Burch.

Police said it’s difficult to track the number of car burglaries or theft directly related to windows left open, however it is a risk.

Burch suggested investing in a car cover instead of leaving your windows open.

We want to hear from you.
