Tom Horne warns of police, fire donation scams

May 23, 2013, 11:41 AM

Arizona Attorney General Tom Horne warned against charity scammers Thursday who may look to collect donations to false causes supposedly benefiting a slain Phoenix police officer and firefighter.

“My office has been alerted that possible charity scammers have already started to take advantage of the tragic deaths of Phoenix Police Officer Daryl Reatz and Phoenix Firefighter Bradley Harper,” Horne said in a press release.

Horne said that people should be skeptical if anyone asks for bank information over the phone (unless they already donate to that charity), to make contributions to known organizations and to not pay bills unless they remember committing money to the organization.

Those who would like to make donations in honor of Reatz can do so via the 100 Club.

Those who would like to make donations to the Harper family can find more information at pffaz.org or make a donation at any Chase Bank to account number 2959805195.

We want to hear from you.
