Jerry Colangelo reacts to Jason Collins’ coming out

PHOENIX — The former president of the Phoenix Suns said NBA player Jason Collins coming out really is not news to him.
Jerry Colangelo said he isn’t surprised by the announcement.
“Obviously, it was just a matter of time before this day would come when someone would go public,” he said. “In all probability, we’re going to hear more as we go forward in all sports, not just the NBA.”
When asked if he is happy about the announcement, Colangelo said he has no emotion.
“We live in a day and age when people are much more transparent and much more open about who they are as people and their desires, etc., and they have the ability now to share that. I accept that for what it’s worth.
“Beyond that, I don’t have any further comment,” he said.
