The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has sent an advisory warning of a rare and highly drug-resistant superbug in the U.S.
According to FoxNews.com, 15 of the 37 forms of Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae have been found in America in less than a year. CRE infections have developed with patients taking antibiotics along with those receiving treatment for supplementary conditions.
The CDC said that these antibiotic-resistant organisms not only live in the human stomach, but in soil and water as well. Medical centers and health care providers are urged to follow the 2012 CRE toolkit for the CDC’s assistance.
