Valley high school students attend Obama inauguration

Jan 21, 2013, 2:57 PM | Updated: 2:57 pm

Some Valley high school students received a first-hand lesson in American politics on Monday morning.

Thirty-five Hamilton High School students flew to Washington, D.C. to tour the area and attend the inauguration of President Barack Obama. One student, Zak Ghali, said it was his chance to witness “history in the making.”

“I’d like to experience democracy first-hand,” he said, adding that he hopes to meet a congressman.

Another student, Paula Beatty, said the trip was in the works for about six months.

“I’m excited to see Obama and stuff we hear about, like the Capitol, in real life.”

The students are scheduled to return home Tuesday night.

We want to hear from you.
