Sometimes a sign can be more than a simple rallying cry for a sports team or a pat on the back for a celebrity.

Sometimes a sign can save a life.

That’s what happened in Greensboro, Georgia, to Raleigh Callaway and his family. Callaway was in desperate need of a kidney transplant after battling stage five kidney failure. The police officer and his family got creative when trying to find a donor, posing for a picture with a sign that said “Our daddy needs a kidney” held by his two young daughters.

The photo went viral and phone calls from possible donors began pouring in.

Chris Carroll, a health care consultant from Texas, knew he’d be the one to help this family.

“I just knew. Even though there were thousands of people who called in. I just had a feeling that was going to happen,” Carroll said of being the right fit for the officer, according to USA Today.

Carroll ended up being a match, and the two underwent the procedure late last month. Both men have since been released from the hospital.

“Sometimes you do start wondering, ‘Why can’t people be more loving and more considerate and more kind?'” said Calloway’s wife, Kristi. “This just shows me they can. They just need a reason. They need an outlet and something that speaks to them.”
