because it sets a precedence to single out and raise taxes on anything they feel is frivilous. It's a personal choice to consume things that aren't good for you. The nexy thing you know, things like meat or bread could be taxed because meat can be fried or bread means people will use butter. the whole concept of taxing any type of food is rediculous. Raise the taxes in some other way. In some cases, soda and candy have been used to thwart asthma and blood sugar attacks. So, they would be taxing a medical alternative when medication is not handy, just saying.

If we were to tax it to tax it like a general sales tax on everything then cool. However, to tax it to make up for foolish spending then NO. How about put all of the foolish things on the ballot to be voted out. Then how about some pay cuts? Then again let's look where we can cut spending. Why must be reward laziness and failure (Food stamp, bailouts, section 8 housing, stimulis, etc) and punish the go getters and success with taxation? Keep your hands out of the go getters and success's pockets.
