One month after hosting Super Bowl XLII, the Valley is bidding to host another extravaganza in 2012.
The chairman of the Super Bowl Host Committee, Mike Kennedy, said that, even with bids due April 1, there's time to come up with a funding plan and other details for Super Bowl 46.
``We're in the Super Bowl business and 2012 would be absolutely perfect with it being the centennial year," Kennedy said, referring to Arizona's 100th year anniversary of becoming a state.
The biggest challenger would appear to be Indianapolis, which will have a new stadium, but the Host Committee hopes the Valley's performance this year will boost its chances. Houston also is expected to bid on the 2012 game.
Gov. Janet Napolitano has high hopes the National Football League championship game will return to Arizona.
``The competition is tough, but I feel very good about what we did this year," she said, ``What the Host Committee did, the facilities we have, the tourism industry that we have to support the Super Bowl. So we're going to make a strong push for this, and I just love the idea of having the Super Bowl in Arizona's Centennial Year.
The NFL is to decide by late May on the location of the 2012 game.
