Firefighters were watching two wildfires in the Kaibab National Forest in northern Arizona Wednesday.

The "Indian Fire" had burned more than 600 acres just south of the Grand Canyon and the "Cross Fire" had burned more than 250 acres southeast of Williams.

Both fires are considered beneficial to forest health and firefighters were letting them burn after establishing perimeters.

The "Indian Fire," started by lightning on June 17, is about 5 miles southeast of Tusayan and 2 miles southeast of Ten-X Campground. The "Cross Fire" is 18 miles southeast of Williams. It also was started by lightning, on June 30.

While the fires are not threatening any communities, smoke is having some effect. Smoke from the "Indian Fire" can be seen from Grand Canyon National Park and Tusayan, and smoke from the "Cross Fire" can be seen from Interstate 40, Williams, Prescott and the Verde Valley.
