YUMA, Ariz. - Rapper Lil Wayne has appeared in court on drug possession and weapons charges he faces in Yuma County, Ariz.

Lil Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, was ordered by a judge to attend Tuesday morning's pretrial hearing.

His attorney said he told the Yuma County Superior Court judge that the U.S. Border Patrol hasn't turned over records the defense requested months ago. The judge set another court date for Aug. 11.

Carter was arrested at a U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8 east of Yuma in January 2008 after authorities said they found cocaine, Ecstasy and a handgun on his tour bus.

He faces one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of dangerous drugs and weapons misconduct.

Carter previously pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Attorney James Tilson said Tuesday's hearing was a routine meeting with the judge.

Tilson said he hopes to eventually get the charges dropped.

A rapper with guns and drugs? who would have thought that possible? Maybe sales are down and he needed to improve his street cred? Will Al Sharpton come defend him?
