Man killed after attending family wedding
by Associated Press (September 8th, 2010 @ 11:20am)
LYNCHBURG, Va. - A Lynchburg police official says the fatal beating of an 81-year-old Arizona man by three teenagers appears to be a random act.
Lynchburg Police Capt. Todd Swisher tells The News & Advance that George Leroy Baker III of Tempe, Ariz., was beaten Sunday and died Monday at a local hospital. Swisher says Baker suffered head injuries.
Two 16-year-olds and a 13-year-old were charged Tuesday with the murder of Baker.
Swisher says Baker was in Lynchburg for his granddaughter's wedding.
An affidavit filed in Lynchburg Circuit Court says witnesses told police they heard one of the teens say he would hit the first person he saw. According to the witnesses, the teen wanted to impress girls who were with him.
