Arizona-based web site aides remodeling homeowners

With the housing market in decline, many homeowners are choosing to remodel their homes rather than relocate.

But the dream of a new kitchen could turn into a nightmare of cost overruns and other problems. A new Arizona-based website, buildproof.com, aims to help homeowners through the process.

"Build Proof is making sure that all payments are very secure, that everything runs the way it should, and is making sure that both parties are communicating effectively," says CEO Alan Farber.

Farber says his company basically acts as a middleman, helping homeowners communicate with contractors. Contractors pay a fee to use the web site, but receive referrals; the site is free for homeowners.
